Co-zyBench

Co-zyBench is a benchmarking platform utilizing a simulation-based Digital Twin approach for evaluating personalized thermal comfort provision systems.

The ongoing energy crisis underscores the importance of implementing energy-efficient Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) control systems in buildings, which account for nearly half of the total energy consumption in commercial buildings. State-of-the-art solutions employ sensors or smart devices to gauge individual thermal sensations for HVAC manage and control, yet assessing these methods is challenging.

Co-zyBench employs a co-simulation middleware interfacing between a Digital Twin (DT) of the smart building and its HVAC system and another DT representing occupants’ dynamic behavior in various spaces including dynamic their movements and thermal preferences. The DTs that support Co-zyBench are generated based on information, such as data captured by sensors, of the space in which the thermal comfort system has to be evaluated. Co-zyBench incorporates metrics for energy consumption, thermal comfort, and occupant equality. It also features reference DTs based on standard buildings, HVAC systems, and occupants with diverse thermal preferences.
